Update 2016 Apr:
Note: This is for the newborn size hat, and I used the recommended size H crochet hook.
Follow the instructions from this pattern through round 11, which will leave you with 40 sts on the last round.
Rounds 12-13) sc camel st*, join with ss to 1st sc.
*Not familiar with the camel st? Please see this video or give it a google search.*
Fasten off after Round 13.

I love making crocheted gifts for others. I made this hat and bootie set in newborn size for a friend of mine due next month. The bootie pattern is from the designer Elizabeth Alan here at http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-boy-shoes-little-mister-loafers ($5.95).
The beanie pattern is from this website: http://allicrafts.blogspot.com/2012/11/free-pattern-vertical-stripes-beanie.html . This pattern is available for free, however I added a brim to the hat based on this pattern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baby-newsboy-beanie-little-sport-newsboy-hat .
These were crocheted in Martha Stewart’s wool blend yarn. I purchased the buttons from Jo-Ann’s.
Hopefully the size works out and that these items get some use!
